Shady Bowl Speedway delivered a hot, but action filled day of racing Saturday headlined by the 50-lap modified madness feature. It was the second race of the modified madness series, which is a four-race series that consists of four 50-lap features paying $1,500 to each winner.
Mike Carroll picked up the win Saturday after already securing a modified madness series win on May 15. Carroll made his way to the front of the field by lap 14 and coasted the rest of the way. Gregg Jackson, who was the dash winner, was a strong second. Logan McPherson was third, Jim Lewis Jr. was fourth and fast qualifier Chris Parker was fifth. Ross Klinglehofer and Zach Brandyberry were heat winners.
West Liberty’s Gary Eaton Jr. took the tuner 40-lap feature. Eaton, who was the fast qualifier, took over after lap eight and never looked back. Terry Eaton, Jr., Honious, Holli Eaton and Bill Walters filled out the top five spots.
The street stocks came off the hill next and saw Rodney Roush take the 25-lap feature. Terry Purtee put on a stellar effort to finish second, Chad Small II, Jacob Heckman and Austin Eaton finished third through fifth. Josh Sage set fast time and won the dash. Rob Schaeff was the winner of the heat race.
In thunder car action, Scott Drake won his fourth feature of the season. Curtis Noble led lap one before giving way to heat winner Bob Coppock. Drake, the dash winner, took over the lead for good after the 10th lap. Brad Blue, Hunter Hicks, fast qualifier Robert Roush and Landen Jones rounded out the top five.
Racing returns to Shady Bowl Speedway on Saturday. Street stocks will headline the night’s action with a $5,000 to winner. The truck series will be on hand for a 50-lap main along with the compacts. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
