Xavier T. Zayas, 22, of 206 1/2 N. Detroit St., was charged Thursday with littering and improper disposal of oil, antifreeze, grease and other petroleum products.
At 1:35 p.m., a witness observed Zayas park a car in a wash bay at Power Rain Car Wash, 1325 S. Detroit St., and change the car’s oil. The witness provided officers with a photograph from his cellular phone.
Officers found still warm oil in the wash bay’s drain trench and a plastic bag with an empty oil filter box, an empty oil jug and used motor oil filter.
Zayas was confronted at his residence and admitted to changing the oil and leaving the trash.
Suspect lodged on weapons charge
Cole R. Cozad, 22, of West Liberty, was charged Sunday with a weapons violation.
At 2:20 a.m., he became entrapped in a parked vehicle at 437 E. Patterson Ave. The driver’s side door handle was broken allowing entry. However once inside, the broken handle prevented exiting without a key.
He told officers he came to the residence because he suspected a resident of stealing from him. He noted to officers he had made mistake coming Bellefontaine.
A set of brass knuckles were recovered from his rear pants pocket.
He was lodged in jail.
Two face drug charges after stop
Cole L. Bader, 30, and Hannah R. Lykins, 27, both of 15693 State Route 720, Lakeview, each was charged after a 11:25 p.m. traffic stop Thursday at Heritage Drive and Madison Drive.
Bader was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia while Lykins was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments and arrested on probation violation.
Bader was stopped for marked lane violations and driving a car without a rear license plate light.
Lykins was taken into custody on the probation violation and officers observed two open bottles of beer in rear seat cupholders. A probable search of the vehicle found small glass container between the driver’s seat and rocker panel. It contained two empty small bags and a gray bag with powder cocaine.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department found a pipe used for abusing cocaine in Bader’s front sweatshirt pocket along with a piece of folded paper containing suspected heroin or fentanyl.
Three hypodermic needles were found in Lykins’ cinch style back pack and purse.
Both were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Cursing woman charged
Maycie M. Maddox, 22, of 1072 Heritage Court, was charged Sunday with menacing and persistent disorderly conduct.
She allegedly kicked at a neighbor’s door and threatened to beat the resident around 9:20 a.m.
While officers were talking to the neighbor and when they interviewed Maddox, she continually cursed and yelled causing a disturbance in the area.
Motorist charged with OVI
Dean F. Craig, 44, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. H2, was charged Saturday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for marked lane and turning violations.
An officer on patrol at 2:15 a.m. observed an eastbound sport utility vehicle turn from the 100 block of Chillicothe Avenue onto northbound Madriver Street. The SUV traveled into the far lane rather than the nearest lane.
The officer followed the SUV onto eastbound Sandusky Avenue and observed two more lane violations before stopping the vehicle on Shady Lane Driver.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and asked Craig to exit the vehicle. He was reportedly unsteady on his feet and could not clearly tell the officer how much alcohol he had consumed.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol. He refused to submit samples for chemical analysis.
Arrest reports noted Craig has prior OVI convictions from 2006 and 2008.
Drivers cited in crashes
Faith E. Lump, 30, of Bellefontaine, was cited for a red light violation after a two-car crash at Main Street and Sandusky Avenue around 9 a.m. Saturday.
She was westbound when her car struck a northbound car operated by Tyler L. Smith, 20, of Rushsylvania. Damage was heavy.
• Simon R. Baker, 20, of West Mansfield, was cited for a red light violation after a two-vehicle crash at Madriver Street and Chillicothe Avenue around 3:50 p.m. Friday.
He was northbound in a pickup truck and failed to stop for a redlight. His pickup hit a westbound car operated by Emily E. Hill, 17, of Bellefontaine, who was transported from the scene by a Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.
Hill’s car was spun around into a utility pole at the northwest corner. It bounced off the pole and continued southeast across the intersection hitting a residence at 200 E. Chillicothe.
Damage was heavy.
• Dylan Marie Harper, 16, of West Mansfield, was cited for failure to control after a noontime crash Friday at Spring Avenue and Newell Street.
She was driving a car eastbound and attempted to turn south on Newell. The car slid into a stop sign at the intersection. Damage was moderate.
