A celebration complete with cake and specialty punch was in order Tuesday afternoon for all of the staff and residents at Campbell Place to mark the facility’s receipt of an award that designates it as one top senior care facilities for resident experiences in the country.
Steven Ferrando, representing A Place for Mom, stopped in after making the drive from Indianapolis to present the 356 Kent Drive, Bellefontaine, residential facility with the company’s 2022 Best of the Best Award, based upon reviews from families and residents.
A Place For Mom provides personal and professional assistance to families in the search of senior care options.
Approximately 2 percent of 47,000 senior care providers nationwide receive its Best of the Best award.
“It’s a real honor to be here today, and you should all be proud of receiving this recognition,” said Ferrando, noting that he serves 102 different communities around Ohio and Indiana.
Charles Jackson, Campbell Place executive director, said the award is a testament to his staff and their commitment to resident care of the 36 individuals who call the facility home.
“I’m really proud of all of their efforts; they make Campbell Place a wonderful place to live,” he said.
The daily interactions with residents make the job one that is most rewarding, Jackson related.
“When people ask me about my work, I tell them that it’s like I have 36 grandpas and grandmas. It’s a blessing to be able to be a part of their lives. Oftentimes for our residents, they just want to have the chance to sit and talk with someone — that’s the most important thing to them.
“My mom is 89, so I have grown up with this generation.”
Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler stopped in to assist with the award presentation and for visits with his service dog-in-training “Issy.”
“You get to be somewhere that’s the best of the best. It’s a big deal for each of the staff, but also for you folks who get to call it home.”
During an open mic session, residents gave their input on Campbell Place, noting that they like “how kind the workers are” and “people treat you good in here.”

A recent reviewer for Campbell Place said, “Her neighbor and friend passed away. Mom was really upset they sat with her for over an hour and comfort her. The staff is amazing very caring. I can’t thank them enough.”
