If the size of this year’s Citizens Police Academy is any indication of local residents’ position on crime, the city should be in good hands, Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley believes.
“I think this shows that our community really does care what our police department is doing,” he said of the 24 participants that enrolled in the fourth and largest class of cadets eager to join the ever-growing ranks of academy alumni.
“People want to see how different our job is compared to when they grew up. And it also shows that our model of community policing is working.”
The Citizens Police Academy, which began Thursday evening, has graduated 44 people in its first three years — 14 in the inaugural 2013 class, 13 in 2014 and 17 in 2015.
