The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities is encouraging understanding by gifting reading materials that celebrate people of all abilities.
LCBDD employees are in the process of delivering special books to Logan County schools, libraries, churches and community partners.The books are handpicked by employees at the LCBDD to help expand the thoughts and minds of all people to accept diversity.
“Sharing books and stories from a young age is important for teaching new concepts to children of all ages,” Logan County Board of DD Superintendent Saul Bauer explained.
“The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities wants our community to understand the importance of accepting and including people with disabilities in the community. It is never too early or too late to include books that discuss inclusion in your reading library.”
Bauer continued, “The pages of these books introduce the readers to different types of people, abilities, and relationships. In reading these books, minds and hearts will be opened to see in their everyday life a more accepting and inclusive world.”
The mission of the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities is to “Empower people with developmental disabilities to contribute as valued members of our community.” “We believe that in order to make this mission possible, we need to partner with the community to share resources and education on the inclusion of individuals with disabilities,” representatives said.
“We have a vision of diversity, inclusion, and equality for all people, including some of our most vulnerable citizens. Individuals with disabilities make vitally important and distinctive contributions to our community.”
