Bellefontaine Middle School’s Team Madagascar won an Outstanding Resolution Award this week at the 2016 Junior Ohio Model United in Columbus.

The team is made up of students Caitlin Hutchins, Erin Jackson, Harleigh Jenkins, Emma Middaugh, Gracie Middaugh, Rylie Myers, Mia Neer, Abby Ruble, Lily Turner and Arianna Nunez. They wrote about the Rosy Periwinkle and its healing powers for health and helping cancer patients
They also competed in the final talent competition at the event.
A total of 42 Bellefontaine Middle School students participated in the Junior OMUN, representing five different countries, also including Bangladesh, Kenya, Mongolia and Venezuela.
Bellefontaine High School students Abbi Adelsberger, Olivia Robbins and Mackenzie Swartz were among 37 officers who presided over the largest Junior OMUN to date, with more than 1,200 student delegates in attendance.
For the resolution portion of the competition, Team Bangladesh wrote about stopping child marriages, and Team Kenya’s project looked at saving endangered animals. Team Mongolia wrote about rooftop farming for the impoverished citizens, and Team Venezuela examined drug trafficking from South America.
