Nelly Hughes, an educator at Benjamin Logan High School, was recently selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars.
A role model to pupils, Mrs. Hughes was nominated by a student for outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in the profession.
“I am honored to have been selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, and I am very grateful to my student, Travis Cox, for nominating me,” she said.
“Teaching is not just a job for me, it’s an important part of my life in which I have the opportunity to share my beautiful language and culture with my students.”
The honoree holds a Masters in Spanish Language and Literature. She is credentialed to teach University of Findlay College Credit Plus courses including SPAN120 (Elementary Spanish I), SPAN220 (Intermediate Spanish I), SPAN221 (Intermediate Spanish II).
Since August of 2007, Mrs. Hughes has been a teacher at Benjamin Logan and she is currently the adviser for the BLHS Spanish Club and the BLHS the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
As a certified National Geographic Educator, she is committed to inspiring the next generation of explorers, conservationists, and change-makers.
