Brooke Tuttle, Benjamin Logan High School U.S. History and AP U.S. Government and Politics teacher, is helping her students learn about various aspects of Black History Month through a project in her classroom. “Each month, I like to create a bulletin board that celebrates different aspects of American History. February, of course, is Black History Month, so this month’s board celebrates black excellence. Civil rights leaders, scientists, artists, writers, politicians, and more are featured on this interactive bulletin board,” she said. The interactive feature of the bulletin board invites students to explore the topic, people and events featured on it. Students are encouraged to ask and answer questions, conduct further research, and contemplate the history of African-Americans and their culture in relevance to our total understanding to American History and present society. “Their stories are our stories,” Tuttle said. The instructor strives to create a new board each month, so in March, she will put together a board for Women’s History Month. (BENJAMIN LOGAN SCHOOLS PHOTO)
