Benjamin Logan’s wrestling team delivered another strong performance by placing second at the North Union Invitational on Saturday.
The Raiders placed 12 wrestlers, including four champions. They had six finalists and saw two wrestlers earn individual awards.
“The team wrestled and competed at a slow start on Saturday, but as the day went on they competed like they are capable of,” said BL head coach Kyle Seeley.
“As a whole, we know that where we finished wasn’t what we set out to do. There are many things that once we get back in the practice room that will be discussed and fixed.”
Marion Pleasant won the 11-team meet with 295.5 points, Ben Logan was second with 260 points, Marysville’s B squad was third with 159 points and host North Union was fourth with 130 points. Triad finished sixth with 116.5 points and WL-Salem was 11th with 33 points.
Senior Steele Boysel and junior Cadman Roose highlighted the Raiders’ performance.
Boysel won the 170-pound weight class with four pins and was named the tournament’s most valuable wrestler. Roose won the 285-pound weight class with five first-period pins. That earned him the most pins award.
Ben Logan also saw championships from Owen O’Brien (113) and Noah Clark (195). O’Brien went 3-0 with three pins, while Clark went 5-0 with five pins.
“O’Brien, Boysel, Clark and Roose all finished as they should have,” said Seeley. “Clark had a very solid weekend on his way to winning his first tournament title.”
Earning runner-up finishes were Jayden Sturgell (120) and Henry Myers (138). Sturgell went 3-2 with three pins and Myers went 4-1 to reach the finals before losing.
“Sturgell and Myers had very tough finals matches, but wrestled very well,” said Seeley. “Myers had a great weekend of wrestling. He wrestled very smart.”
Placing third for the Raiders were Chris Raterman (132) and Joel Abbot (152), while fourth-place finishes came from Chase LeVan (120) and Levi Hunter (126). A fifth-place effort came from Kade Thomas (106) and a sixth-place effort was added by Matthew Beikman (145).
