The top four placers in each event advanced to this week’s regional meet, which is Thursday and Saturday at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium.
Carroll came away with the boys district title after scoring 104 points. Versailles finished second with 87 points, Anna came in third with 77 points and Benjamin Logan was fourth with 63 points. Indian Lake finished in 10th with 30 points.
“We knew going into the district it was going to be very difficult to qualify for regionals with the addition of Anna and Versailles this year (moving up from Division III),” said Ben Logan boys head coach Kevin Butler. “So I’m very happy for the guys that were able to move on. I felt like our seniors did an outstanding job of competing.”
The girls meet was also won by Carroll, which scored 97.5 points. Tippecanoe clipped Versailles 89.5-89 to earn the runner-up spot. Bellefontaine’s girls came in fourth with 67.5 points, Springfield Shawnee was fifth with 54 points and Ben Logan was sixth with 47.5 points. Indian Lake finished 15th with 10 points.
“It was great to have three individual champions,” said BHS head coach Ben Davis. “The overall fourth-place showing for the girls was very solid putting them ahead of a very good Springfield Shawnee team.”
The Chieftain girls claimed three individual district titles, two of which came on Saturday. Ryelee Clary won the 100 hurdles in 15.3 and Zoe Price won the 300 hurdles in 47.2. Sebella Martin won the shot put title Thursday during the first day of the district meet.
“Having two individual hurdle champions in Zoe and Ryelee is a reflection of coaches Cody Sigrist and Larry Young and their diligence, as well as persistence by the girls,” said Davis.
Bellefontaine’s girls advanced to the regional in three other events on Saturday.
The Chiefs received a second-place showing from the 400 relay of Clary, Price, Tysha McBeth and Charlotte Snyder (52.8), a third-place finish from Martin in the discus (113-7) and a fourth-place finish from the 1,600 relay of Price, Mallory Stolly, Aubrey Stolly and Beigh Wilson (4:19.7).
“The 1,600 relay capped off a great day dropping five seconds off of their previous best,” said Davis. “The 400 relay snatched a season best, too.
