It was a memorable two days in the history of Logan County swimming Friday and Saturday as the three local squads combined for the largest amount of district qualifiers to date.
Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake will all send numerous swimmers to the district meet this Friday at Wright State University after qualifying during the sectional meet. The boys teams competed Friday.
The Raiders’ 200 medley relay team of Carter Rees, Max Leezer, Kelvin Ong and Dylan Jordan broke the school record by 2.53 seconds and moved on with a time of 1:49.43.
Ben Logan’s 200 freestyle relay team of Rees, Leezer, Ong and Jordan also broke a school record, recording a time of 1:39.65 to move on to the district meet.
Individually for the Raiders, Carter Rees advanced in both the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. He achieved a new school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.04.
Indian Lake’s boys team qualified two relay teams and two individual events for the districts.
The group of Caden Paavola, Lane McPherson, Reid Vance and Ryan Braig qualified in the 200 freestyle and 400. Both events produced school record-times of 1.40.04 in the 200 freestyle relay and 3:44.83 in the 400 freestyle relay. Braig also qualified to the district meet in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Bellefontaine’s boys qualified its 400 freestyle relay team of Christian Keene, Lucas Harrington, Quinton Bible and Jared Salyer.
The local girls teams took to the pool Sunday and finished with a long list of district qualifiers.
Bellefontaine advanced its 200 medley relay of Sarah Fulmer, Sarah Starkey, Abby Kite and Chloe Reynolds after it finished second.
The Chiefs’ 200 freestyle relay team of Sarah Starkey, Chloe Reynolds, Kite and Morgan Henry finished second and moved on to the districts.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Sarah Fulmer, Reynolds, Joslyn Robinson and Henry finished first and also earned a district berth.
Earning individual district berths for the Chiefs were Sarah Fulmer in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Henry in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Kite in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Reynolds in the 100 breaststroke and Sarah Starkey in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Ben Logan’s girls team advanced its 200 freestyle relay team and its 400 freestyle relay team. Both teams consist of Annika Simovart, Gabrielle Schmidt, Junette Ly and Aliya Pelger.
The Raiders Annika Simovart advanced in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, while Gabrielle Schmidt advanced to districts in the 100 breaststroke.
For Indian Lake, the group of Kassidy Crockett, Liza Shutway, Ella Wagner and Ashyn Shaner qualified to the districts in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. They set a new school record of 1:56.12 in the 200 freestyle relay and a new school record of 4:22.04 in the 400 freestyle relay.
