Assistant treasurer submits resignation
Ridgemont Board of Education members accepted at their Wednesday evening rescheduled meeting a $51,165 bid from Total Environmental Services LLC of Toledo for the abatement of hazardous materials at the former elementary building in Mt. Victory and a portion of the junior high and high school building in Ridgeway.
After seeking input from the community, village councils, township trustees and local Realtors, the board voted May 28, 2015, to demolish the former elementary school and part of the Ridgeway building.
Wednesday evening, board Vice President Corey Ledley stated, “With recent questions regarding the future of the Mt. Victory building, the board has re-examined the reasons we voted for demolition last May.
“With nearly $3 million in renovation costs to upgrade the former elementary school and almost $50,000 in annual utility costs, the board of education is confident that moving forward with the original plans for abatement and demolition are in the best interests of our community for the long term.
“We believe we must be good stewards of what we have and selling a building that is in extreme need of repair to anyone without millions of dollars to preserve it, would be detrimental to our community.”
Members also accepted the resignation of Assistant Treasurer Lori Harp, who has worked for the district for 23 years and has resigned for personal reasons. President Eric Hill shared that he has appreciated her service to the district.
