Bellefontaine High School Robotics Team 9185A won the Innovate Award at their first contest of the season Saturday at the Cleveland State University IEE Vex Robotics Competition.
Team members include senior Dustin VanBuskirk and juniors Micah Woolf and Ben Parsons. Teammate Zane Warren was absent from the competition.
The Innovate Award is presented to a team that presents a combination of ingenuity and innovation in designing their VEX robot. This award will typically recognize a specific, unique piece of engineering that exemplifies thinking outside of the box and innovative engineering design. The judges also commented that they were the only team interviewed that discussed their offensive as well as their defensive strategies.
Team 9185A placed 11th overall in the contest and were able to compete in the afternoon in the playoffs. They made it to the semi-finals, where they were ousted by one of the number-one ranked teams.
Their next competition is Nov. 15 at Nationwide Arena.
