CALTON |
Jason Calton paid his dues as an assistant coach in the Bellefontaine boys basketball program for nine years. He has been rewarded for his efforts by being promoted to the head coaching position.
“It is always a big responsibility to be the head coach of a varsity program,” said Calton. “I have been around the program for nine years and have been able to get a feel for how things work at the varsity level. During that time, I developed some ideas for how I would like to run a program if that opportunity ever came. I hope to build on the success of Bellefontaine boys basketball, and work to develop young men into good players and good people.”
School officials confirmed Monday that Calton was offered the job and accepted it. The board of education will officially act on the hire in July.
The position became open when Henry Stolly announced earlier this spring that he was leaving the boys program after a nine-year run as head coach to take the top spot in the girls basketball program at BHS. Stolly filled the opening created by the departure of Brian Hogan.
