Bellefontaine High School student Dustin VanBuskirk works on a Fanuc lab activity in a BHS classroom. BHS now offers two robotic industry credentials for Bellefontaine and Ohio Hi-Point Career Center satellite students taught by BHS technology instructor Shawn Miller. The Yaskawa Motoman FS100/DX100 Basic Programming with Material Handling (IACET Approved) certification is offered, and new for this year, Fanuc: Handling Tool Operation & Programming (IACT Approved) certification also can be achieved by students. School officials said while the Yaskawa robotic training typically would cost $2,400 and Fanuc training $2,900, these programs are free to the students to take in the Engineering and Manufacturing pathways. Fanuc is one of the largest industrial robot companies in the world with more than 400,000 installed robots in operation, officials noted. Yaskawa Motoman also has more than 360,000 installed industrial robots worldwide and has its U.S. headquarters in Miamisburg. Miller recently attained his Fanuc instructor certification to compliment his Yaskawa instructor certification. (BELLEFONTAINE SCHOOLS PHOTO | SHAWN MILLER)
