Bellefontaine native Timothy Smith was recently awarded NASA’s Early Career Achievement Medal for his research in high temperature metal alloys for aerospace applications.
A resident of West Lake for the past five years, Smith is a 2007 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, where he participated in soccer and baseball. He is a son of local residents Tim and Mary Smith.
This prestigious medal honors individuals within the first 10 years of their early career for significant performance that directly contributes to NASA’s mission and goals.
Smith earned a mechanical engineering degree from Wright State University and a doctorate in materials engineering from The Ohio State University. He is a material research engineer at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, where he resides with his wife Jenny and their son, Liam.
