Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team could not keep its momentum going Tuesday as it fell to host West Carrollton 79-58 in its regular season finale.
The Chiefs, who had won two straight games, finish with a 3-19 record. The Pirates improve to 16-6.
West Carrollton held a 15-10 lead after the opening period. The Pirates outscored the Chiefs in the second quarter 21-16 to carry a 36-26 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw West Carrollton increase its lead to a 54-41 cushion. The Pirates used a 25-17 run in the fourth quarter to ice the win.
Brett Belser and Declan Ashcraft both had 15 points to pace the Chieftains on offense. Hunter Warner tallied seven points and Jarrid Baughman chipped in six.
West Carrollton standout Kalen McKinney poured in a game-high 38 points, including nine three pointers. He leads the Miami Valley League in scoring with 17.3 points per game.
In junior varsity action, West Carrollton edged Bellefontaine 44-43. Jaeden Campbell led the Chiefs with 16 points.
Bellefontaine begins tournament play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Kettering Fairmont High School against the winner of the first-round game between Trotwood-Madison and Graham .
