Bellefontaine’s boys young track and field team showcased its growth Friday by placing third at its own Chieftain Relays at AcuSport Stadium. Benjamin Logan was also in action and saw its boys and girls teams take fourth.
Marysville held on to win the boys 11-team meet with 90.5 points, Springfield Shawnee was second with 82.5 points, Bellefontaine was third with 79 points and Ben Logan took fourth with 59.8 points.
“We had a great competitive meet,” said BHS head coach Ben Davis. “We placed in every event and we were fifth or better in 12 of 13 events. This young sprint team, ladened with distance and throw veterans sprinkled in, is taking shape. Good, health, good attitudes will hopefully translate into good things at the end.”
Marysville won the 11-team girls meet with 93.5 points, Delaware Hayes was second with 84 points, River Valley took third with 69.5 points and Ben Logan was fourth with 67 points. Bellefontaine finished ninth with 22.5 points.
“The girls just missed on several occasions from placing,” said Davis. “They were fighting for points all night. Congrats to the discus trio for winning and keeping the throws tradition going at BHS.”
Boys results
Bellefontaine’s boys were highlighted by a win from the pole vault relay of Justin Carper and Ethan Yoder (24-6) and runner-up finishes from the discus relay of
Micah Fogan, Sullivan Ashcraft and Ethan Akers (268-7 3/4), the shot put relay of Fogan, Akers and Lincoln Howell (125-2 1/4), the 6,400 relay of Gavin Wilson, Gannon Purcell, Tony Stewart and Connor Skidmore (19:44.6) and the shuttle hurdle relay of Micah Woolf, Carter Snapp, Jaquan Mundy and Ashcraft (1:08.7).
Taking third were the long jump relay of Yoder Landon Snapp and Evan Baker (56-0), the sprint medley relay of Kailyn Organ, Baker, Harper Scott and Max Varner (1:39.7) and the distance relay of Wilson, Carper, Carter Snapp and Skidmore (8:56.6).
A fourth-place finish came from the 800 relay of Organ, Max Varner, Baker and Scott (1:34.2), while fifth-place efforts were added by the 400 relay of Organ, Yoder, Baker and Scott (45.2), the 3,200 relay of Skidmore, Stewart, Carper and Wilson (9:11.2) and the high jump relay of Yoder, Carter Snapp and Organ (15-6).
Ben Logan’s boys had even wins from the shot put relay of Marshall Jackson, Gabe Hemmelgarn and Lucas Hemmelgarn (127-10 1/2) and the discus relay of Jackson, Gabe Hemmelgarn and Lucas Hemmelgarn (388-1).
Placing second were the high jump relay of Davontae Fahle, Tucker Munz and Keaghan Stahler (16-6) and the pole vault relay of Jace Wical and Evan Carpenter (24-0).
Fourth-place finishes came from the long jump relay of Fahle, Mitch Vance and Alec Rodenberger (54-11 1/2), the shuttle hurdle relay of Yale Scheiderer, Hunter Lattimer, Tayte Williamson and Munz (1:09.2), the distance medley relay of Williamson, Lattimer, Stahler and Munz (9:02) and the 1,600 relay of Lattimer, Munz, Stahler and Vance (3:38.9).
Coming in sixth was the 800 relay of Lattimer, Max Leezer, Gavin Gibson and Vance (1:35.5).
Girls results
Ben Logan’s girls had a first-place finish from the distance medley relay of Georgia Bates, Mylee Boysel, Kerry Copenhaver and Dani Widmark (10:33.1) and the high jump relay of Ella Studebaker, Isabel Henderson and Maddy Plikerd (14-2).
A runner-up finish came from the shuttle hurdle relay of Studebaker, Hannah White, Emarie Bensman and Maven Rhoades (1:14.1), while a third-place finish came from the 3,200 relay of Bates, Widmark, Copenhaver and Sami Meeker (10:50.9).
Placing fourth was the long jump relay of Hannah White, Mya Burrey and Maddy Herring (41-5) with fifth-place efforts coming from the 400 relay of Ezrah McGue, Herring, Burrey and Cheyanne Peterson (54.1) and the 1,600 relay of Boysel, McGue, Studebaker and Burrey (4:29.1).
Adding sixth-place finishes were the sprint medley relay of Herring, Meeker, Henderson and Maddy Plikerd (2:03.02), the 800 relay of McGue, Herring, Peterson and Richelle Stover (1:56.3), the shot put relay of Alanna Gibson, Jordan Sexstone and Lauren Hemmelgarn (81-11) and the pole vault relay of Lexi Key and Kate Vickroy (14-0).
Bellefontaine had one event win with the discus relay of Katie Pool, Carmen Shumaker and Alexis Robinson (288-5).
A fourth-place finish came from the shot put relay of Pool, Perri Neeld and Shumaker (89-5), while seventh-place efforts came from the sprint medley relay of Maggie Howard, Mallory Kuhn, Latoya Rogan and Ashlyn Gonterman (2:04.8), the pole vault relay of Gonterman (7-0) and the long jump relay of Howard, Robinson and Taylor McCafferty (36-5.75).
Bellefontaine and Ben Logan compete in the Logan County championships Tuesday at Riverside.
