Benjamin Logan’s baseball team lived up to its preseason hype during its season opener Saturday as the Raiders took down perennial power Coldwater 6-2.
The Cavaliers were the Division III state champions in 2019 and were unable to defend their title last spring when coronavirus canceled the season.
There were high expectations for a talented Ben Logan squad this spring and Saturday’s win only added to that.
Coldwater held a 2-1 lead through four innings, but Ben Logan began to rally in the later innings. The Raiders plated a run in the fifth inning to knot the score at 2-2.
Ben Logan found a scoring surge in the sixth inning with four runs to vault out to a 6-2 advantage. Coldwater was unable to match the score in the top of the seventh.
Austin McGowan sparked the Raider offense with two hits and two RBI and Ethan Ricketts had two RBI.
Blake Peterson went the first four innings on the mound and recorded five strikeouts. Kaden Arn pitched the final three innings to record the win. He finished with three strikeouts. Ben Logan travels to Waynesfield-Goshen today for a non-league game. BEN
