Benjamin Logan’s girls golf team is in eighth place after the first of two rounds in the Division II state tournament at Ohio State University’s Gray Course.
Ben Logan shot 347 on Friday. The tourney concludes with the final round today.
“We feel the girls played well enough to still be in the running for third place,” said BL head coach Tiann Harner. “The girls feel good going into (today).”
Defending state champion Lima Central Catholic is currently tied for first place with Marlington after both teams finished the first round with scores of 318. Tuscarawas Valley is sitting in third with 334 and Archbishop Alter is fourth with340.
Ben Logan sophomore Sydney Wesson led the Raiders on Friday with a five-over-par 75. She is cur-rently tied for 11th in the individual standings.
“We were ecstatic about her round,” said Harner. “It is so great to see that smile as she finished up. We are super proud of her.”
Also for Ben Logan, Mailiis Simovart carded an 81, Gabrielle Schmidt shot a 91, Leaah Valentine post-ed a 100 and Willow Titus rounded out the group with a 107.
“They never gave up,” said Harner. “They had some bad holes but held it together. It was nice to watch them let it go and focus on the next hole.”
With one more round today, the Lady Raiders want to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their standing.
“We hope to see the girls play their best golf,” said Harner. “They absolutely can make a run for third place. It’s going to be tough weather conditions and these girls are prepared. They are determined.”
