The growing season is nearly over, but the Benjamin Logan Growing Gardens, Growing Minds Student Organization, also known as the Gardening Club, are still busily preparing for next spring and the inaugural planting of the market garden.
Sunday, several students and staff members gathered at the greenhouse to clean and to organize supplies. Those in attendance included Charlotte Graham, Olivia Hahn, Cecilia Kerns, Averi Lane, and staff members Nancy Forsythe, Ryan Kerns, Shelly Lane, and Bruce Smith.
Any Benjamin Logan student who would like to be involved in the Gardening Club should contact Shelly Lane, lanes.
In the upcoming year, Gardening Club members will grow plants in the greenhouse and also outside in the raised beds.
The club is also looking forward to planting in the new market garden on campus, where vegetables will be raised and harvested to be sold at a local farmers’ market. Students will have the chance to learn about sustainable living, as well as the business of gardening.
The district is continuously looking for volunteers to help with the Growing Gardens, Growing Minds projects. Parents, students and community volunteers can contact Ryan Kerns at kernsr.
