Benjamin Logan’s boys soccer team pulled out a dramatic 1-0 win over host Northwestern on Wednesday to claim the outright Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division championship and the first soccer title in school history.
“What a fantastic win for these guys tonight and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said BL head coach Jamie Hughes. “This title started back in April when these guys started working almost every day to get better and to be ready for the season. They’ve put hours and hours of conditioning, juggling, ball work, practice, you name it, and they’ve done it. To see that all come to fruition tonight was emotional for sure.”
The Raiders, who also set school record for wins this fall, complete the regular season with an 11-4-1 overall record and win the CBC Mad River with a 7-2-1 mark. The Warriors fall to 7-5-4 and finish second in the Mad River at 5-3-2.
Tyler Cabot scored the Raiders only goal of the night with an assist from Michael Rostorfer with 2:10 before halftime. The Warriors were unable to score in the second half.
Defensively, Jonas Hoffman made six saves in goal for the Raiders and recorded the shutout.
“It all came down to one game, whoever won tonight would take home the title and our boys stuck to the game plan and they executed it,” said Hughes. “It’s been more of a team effort coaching wise with Chad Studebaker and myself . He gets the credit for the countless hours of work he puts in as well, but tonight was about the guys going out there and just winning the first soccer title in school history.”
