Benjamin Logan’s boys track and field team is peaking at the right time.
The Raiders turned in a stellar effort Friday to win their own 12-team invitational.
Ben Logan accumulated 131 points to finish in front of second-place Bellefontaine, which had 120.5 points.
Jonathan Alder was third with 70 points, Celina was fourth with 68 points and Indian Lake rounded out the top five with 64 points.
Riverside also competed and finished 11th.
Marshall Jackson powered the Raiders with wins in the discus (136-0) and shot put (47-5.5).
Jace Wical also captured a win in the pole vault (13-0) to help the Raiders to their championship.
The Raiders had numerous second-place finishes. Those included the 3,200 relay team of Tucker Munz, Keaghan Stahler, Blake Rhoades and Tayte Williamson (9:03.84), the 800 relay team of Hunter Lattimer, Max Leezer, Gavin Gibson and Mitch Vance (1:36.84), the 1,600 relay team of Munz, Brady Burrey, Vance and Stahler (3:36.73), Davonte Fahle in the long jump (20-0.75), Vance in the 400 (53.62) and Gabe Hemmelgarn in the discus (125-8).
Hemmelgarn was third in the shot put (43-9.25) and Evan Carpenter finished third in the pole vault (10-6) for the Raiders.
Taking fourth place for BL were Yale Scheiderer in the 110 hurdles (18.25), Sam Whitten in the 100 (11.67), Vance in the 200 (24.01), the 400 relay team of Whitten, Leezer, Gavin Gibson and Lattimer (46.63) and Fahle in the high jump (5-6).
Also for the Raiders, Munz was fifth in the 1,600 (5:02), Leezer was fifth in the 200 (24.56), Stahler was fifth in the 800 (2:13.52), Williamson placed sixth in the 800 (2:17.21), Scheiderer was seventh in the 300 hurdles (48.16), Alex Rodenberger placed seventh in the high jump (5-6) and Rhoades was eighth in the 1,600 (5:12).
The Chiefs were led by wins from Connor Skidmore in the 1,600 (4:50.49), the 3,200 relay team of Max Varner, Gavin Wilson, Justin Carper and Connor Skidmore and the 800 relay team of Kailyn Organ, Max Varner, Evan Baker and Harper Scott (1:36.33).
Finishing second for the Chiefs were Micah Fogan in the shot put (47-25), Ethan Yoder in the pole vault (13-0), Organ in the 100 (11.59) and the 400 relay of Organ, Yoder, Evan Baker and Scott (45.96).
Adding third-place efforts for the Chiefs were Yoder in the long jump (19-11), Wilson in the 1,600 (4:59.55) and Tony Stewart in the 3,200 (10:52.53).
Also for BHS, Skidmore took fourth in the 800 (2:10.56), Fogan was fourth in the discus (119-8), the 1,600 relay of Organ, Gavin Wilson, Varner and Scott was fourth (3:45.51), Varner was fifth in the 400 (54.36), James Holt took fifth in the 300 hurdles (47.68), Scott finished fifth in the 200 (24.01), Colin Deitsch was fifth in the high jump (5-6), Baker was sixth in the 100 (11.82) and seventh in the 200 (24.32), Micah Woolf was sixth in the 110 hurdles (18.48), Carper placed seventh in the pole vault (9-0), Sullivan Ashcraft placed eighth in the 110 hurdles (18.69) and Gannon Purcell was seventh in the 3,200 (11:06.32).
“We had a solid day in the windy weather on the track,” said Bellefontaine head coach Ben Davis. “We lacked a consistent effort on the field event side in some cases. That is something we will have to iron out in order to win a league championship. Overall though, it was a good day for the Chiefs.”
