Benjamin Logan Board of Education members approved at their Monday evening meeting three-year agreements with both certified and classified staff members that include base salary increases.
The agreements are effective through June 30, 2024.
Next school year in 2021-22, base salary increases are set at 3 percent. For the final two years of the contract, base salary increases are set at 2 percent in 2022-23 and 1 percent in 2023-24.
Also during the meeting, the board extended several three-year administrative contracts, effective Aug. 1 through July 31, 2024, to the following individuals: Jeff Amspoker, high school assistant principal; Holly Barr, middle school assistant principal; Colleen Bodin. elementary principal; Brenda Fahle, transportation director; and Sally Stolly, director of administrative services.
Members also extended administrative contracts to Brian Powderly, high school principal; and Sonja Frederick, director of nutrition/human resources, effective Aug. 1 through July 31, 2023.
An administrative contract was approved for Tim Scheiderer, building/grounds Supervisor, effective March 29; and he was extended a one-year contract that begins Aug. 1.
Nicola Holdsworth, speech/language pathologist, was also extended a one-year administrative contract, effective Aug. 1.
The district also reinstated several employees from the maintenance and custodial staff who had been laid in the fall during a Reduction in Force measure when the work was outsourced to CMG of East Liberty. Employees who were reinstated by the district effective April 6 include: Dennis Wells and Joe Giles, head custodians; Penny Baker, Janice Kennaw and Diane Chamberlain, custodians.
The action followed a grievance filed by the maintenance and custodial staff. The final arbitration ruling showed that the grievance was sustained, with all workers of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees bargaining unit will to be reinstated by Benjamin Logan, with back pay, as previously reported in the Examiner.
The board also commended the school’s FFA chapter and adviser Lora James on their 50th annual FFA Banquet, where 250 people attended in an outdoor setting in the parking lot.
In other action, the board:
• accept the resignations of Christina Shotts, vocal music teacher, effective June 30; and Brooke Thompson, head custodian, effective April 16;
• extended the following classified contracts: David Hunt, maintenance, effective March 29; Blaine Walter, Katherine Dudgeon, Kyle Huffman, custodians, each effective April 6; Brooke Thompson, head custodian, effective April 6; and Holly Bair and Jessica McCoy, secretary positions, effective for 2021-22 school year;
• approved a $8,440.71 Ohio School Training Safety Grant Award;
• approved graduation requirements for the Class of 2021;
• approved the following appointments to the Belle Center Free Public Library: Barb McCarren and Jennifer Newland, both effective April 1, through March 31, 2028.
