Bellefontaine’s girls and boys bowling teams made it a clean sweep of the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division bowling championships Friday.
The Lady Chiefs entered the tournament tied with Jonathan Alder and needed to win the tourney to earn the title.
“When we prepared for this tournament I told them that if we could win the first game I thought we would win the title, and they came out and did just that and never looked back,” said BHS girls head coach Jane Kline.
In the regular format, Bellefontaine rolled games of 947, 1,006 and 975 for a 2,928. The Chiefs also had a 902 baker set for a 3,830.
Ashley Ehmer set a new school record with a 689 series, rolling games of 199, 244 and 246. That series eclipsed the previous high of 652 posted by Angie Corwin in 2009.
The Chiefs’ Lindsey Heminger had games of 194, 242 and 186 for a 622 series, Kayla Watkins posted games of 174, 225 and 165 for a 564 series, Abby Bailey had games of 190 and 201 and a 529 series and Brynn Noffsinger posted games of 190 and 177 and a 524 series.
“It was a great night for our girls and their parents,” said Kline. “This was a great team effort by the girls and a great win. I am so proud of the hard work and effort the girls have shown and they proved to us all how bad they wanted this.”
Bellefontaine’s boys also brought home a league championship. The Chiefs were led by senior Ian Salyer, who fired a 723 series and earned the Kenton Trail division bowler of the year award.
Ian Salyer and Beau Salyer achieved spots on the all-league first team and Isaiah Henry earned a spot on the second team. Ryan Carman received the sportsmanship award.
“I couldn’t be prouder of these boys,” said BHS boys coach Tammy Overholser. “They make a goal and have achieved almost everything they have set out to conquer. This group of boys work hard in the off-season on bowling and in the end get results. This is a very talented group of boys.” Bellefontaine finished the regular season with a 15-1 record.
