Bellefontaine’s bowling teams opened the season with wins over Springfield Shawnee on Tuesday at T-P Lanes.
The Chieftain boys cruised to a 2,864-2,107 victory over the Braves. Bellefontaine’s win was fueled by baker games of 204, 201, 212 and 223 for an 840.
Leading the way for Bellefontaine was Ian Salyer, who fired a 278 game and had a two-game series of 490. Beau Salyer rolled games of 200 and 257 for a 457 series, Isaiah Henry had games of 199 and 206 for a 405 series and Ryan Carman added a 186 game.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the way the boys came out rolling,” said head coach Tammy Overholser. “We have been practicing tough.”
In the junior varsity boys match, WL-Salem edged Bellefontaine 1,939-1,928. For the Chiefs, Drake Argabright had a 223 game and Chad Gossard-Miller had a 323 series.
Bellefontaine’s varsity girls squad beat the Braves 2,170-1,732.
Kayla Watkins paced the Chiefs with games of 177 and 191 for a 368 series. Ashley Ehmer had a 191 game and 327 series, Abby Bailey had a 188 game and 324 series and Lindsey Heminger rolled a 302 series.
In the junior varsity girls match, Bellefontaine won over West Liberty-Salem 1,590-1,574. Mollie Smith led the Chiefs with a 137 game and 259 series, Kiana Oppy had a 132 game and Akayla Ryan had a 124 game.
Bellefontaine is back in action tonight against Benjamin Logan.
Newton tops Pirates
Riverside’s varsity bowling teams were defeated by Newton on Saturday.
In a match shortened because of time constraints, Newton’s boys beat Riverside 1,292-1,158. Bailey Gammell led the Pirates with a 143 game.
Newton won the varsity girls match 1,135-1,014. Rayce Yelton led the Pirates with a 135 game.
In junior varsity action, Jasmine Gordon led Riverside’s girls with a 139 game and Chris Ordean led the boys with a 114 game.
