A flying insect is reported as the cause of a single-vehicle crash that occurred about 3 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of State Route 245 near Township Road 47 outside West Liberty.
Deputies report Alyssa Alford, 17, of West Liberty, was eastbound on S.R. 245 when she was stung by bee, which caused her to lose control and travel off the right side of the road.
Her vehicle struck a culvert before coming to rest in a field.
Alford was not injured. She was cited for failure to control. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
OVI arrests reported
Norma J. Reames, 68, of 11743 Williams Drive, Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident about 10 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies received a report from Reames’ neighbor, who said Reames had backed her vehicle from her driveway and struck his vehicle. He also believed Reames might be intoxicated.
Deputies located Reames in the area of 11744 Williams Drive attempting to start her vehicle. She told deputies she had backed into the other vehicle and admitted to consuming two shots that evening.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies observed an odor of alcohol and that she was unsteady on her feet. She repeatedly told deputies that she suffered from diabetes and that was the reason for her current condition.
She requested medical treatment for her diabetes issues and was transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she refused to submit to a blood alcohol content rest.
• James E. Curl, 53, of Forest, was charged with OVI as a result of a traffic stop just after midnight Monday morning in the Huntsville area.
Deputies received a report of a possible drunk driver on a motorcycle in the area of State Route 117 and State Route 366.
Deputies located the motorcycle as it was turning into Desperado’s, 6857 Lima St., Huntsville, and spoke with the operator, Curl, and his passenger.
While speaking with him, deputies observed signs of intoxication and he admitted to consuming several beers earlier. The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests. Troopers of the Ohio State
Highway Patrol also assisted at the scene.
Curl was placed under arrest, and at the jail, he tested 0.080 blood alcohol content. He was released to a sober driver.
