Alice Barbara Shumaker, 90, of Bellefontaine went home to be with her Savior at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at her residence.
She was born in Bellefontaine on April 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Kenneth Charles and Anna Mary (Willoby) Painter.
On June 1, 1950, she married Donald Earl Shumaker in Calvary Baptist Church, Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2007. She is also preceded in death by a grandson, Ian Shumaker; and a brother, Donald Norman Painter.
She is survived by two children, Patricia Ann (Steve) Davis of DeGraff and Daniel Kenneth Shumaker of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, Katie (Mike) Anasis, David (Angelyn) Davis, Michael (Amanda) Davis, Lauren Shumaker, Troy Shumaker, Jonny Shumaker; nine great-grandchildren, Gracie, Wyatt, Will and Emily Anasis, Steven, Gwyndolyn, Juniper and Magnolia Davis, and Sawyer Davis.
Barbara loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and desired to live a life to please Him. She worked as an administrative assistant at Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine for 30 years. She also was involved in youth ministries at the church for more than 50 years. Her hands were always busy serving others, and in recent years she crocheted hundreds of hats for children with cancer. Her greatest desire was to share with others the hope she had in Jesus Christ.
Steve Davis, her son-in-law, leads lead a funeral service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, at the Bellefontaine Grace Church, 2220 South U.S. Route 68, Bellefontaine, Ohio, 43311. Visitation is Tuesday, June 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the church. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
