Tracy Gregg, a special education teacher at Bellefontaine Intermediate School, is coordinating the academy for the first time this year, along with Christi Dodds, a Bellefontaine Elementary School teacher.
She said there are 15 pieces of art up for auction at the event that follows the community dinner served by the Saints volunteers at the church. The evening also includes the presentation of the DVD given to families that participated in the 2015 academy.
“It’s a nice way for parents to come together and share heartache, troubles and encouragement, said Families Touched by Autism member Kim Richards, whose fourth-grade son is on the autism spectrum and has attended the academy for several summers. A drawing he did of his beloved Angry Birds character is among the items up for auction.
She has found the group to be “a good support network” and it’s been beneficial to her son, as well.
“He’s made friends with other group members. It’s a good way for them to socialize and it’s a good social outlet for him,” she said about such activities as tubing, holiday parties and other community outings.
