Arrest warrants have been issued for a Michigan suspect following a pursuit Monday involving multiple Logan County law enforcement agencies, officers of the Washington Township Police Department report.
A Washington Township officer on patrol around 2:14 p.m. Monday in the area of State Route 235 and County Road 91 observed a white Chevrolet vehicle commit a lane violation, and as the officer pulled out to follow the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Christopher Sheller, 43, of Midland, Mich., reportedly accelerated quickly to speeds in excess of 100 mph. The suspect traveled into DeGraff on State Route 235 and eastbound State Route 508.
Spikes were deployed in the area of U.S. Route 68 and S.R. 508, but the suspect drove around them, nearly crashing. Sheller continued southbound on U.S. 68 at a high rate of speed.
County law enforcement terminated the pursuit as the suspect crossed into Champaign County. Law enforcement in Union and Champaign counties continued to pursue the vehicle, until eventually losing sight of the suspect. Speeds reached 120 mph during the pursuit, officers reported.
Sheller reportedly was involved in a domestic violence that led to a pursuit in Michigan earlier Monday.
The suspect was considered armed and dangerous and was threatening, “suicide by the means of law enforcement,” according to information provided by the Washington Township Police Department.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Russells Point and West Liberty police departments assisted.
