A Bellefontaine motorist died Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near Enon.
Jacob A. Lewis, 21, of Bellefontaine, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, troopers of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
His passenger, Alexander J. Lindstrom, 21, of Bellefontaine, was transported from the scene by a CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.
There were no other reported injuries, according to reports on file Thursday.
The crash occurred at 7:23 p.m. in the westbound center lane of I-70 just west of where State Route 4 merges with the freeway.
Troopers report Lewis was operating a 2001 Ford Mustang which was stopped. A driver of a 2015 Frieghtliner tow truck swerved to avoid the car but the driver of a 2014 Honda van following behind did not, troopers report.
The van hit the car and pushed it into the tow truck.
All three westbound lanes were closed nearly three hours during the crash response and investigation. Traffic was backed up more than three miles.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office; the Ohio Department of Transportation; and emergency medical personnel from Mad River Township, Springfield Township, Bethel Township and Huber Heights. A MedFlight helicopter crew also responded to the scene.
