Architects presented the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Board of Education with a phasing plan of a $30 million renovation project to take place throughout the next three years during Wednesday evening’s regular meeting.
Superintendent Rick Smith said the core team discussed earlier Wednesday how teachers and classrooms were going to move throughout the phases of the renovation.
“(The presentation) demonstrated the schedule and the complexity of the project,” he said.
Smith added that he hopes even with delays in construction, that the renovations will be completed by January 2023.
Right now, the school is in the “refining” process, he said.
“Construction is an ebb and flow process,” Smith said. “We have to go through the process and look at everything in greater detail.”
Also earlier Wednesday, Smith met with the fire chief and county inspector.
“It was an encouraging meeting with our local officials,” Smith said. “What we have is a doable, workable plan as we move through the renovation project.”
Eric Adelsberger, treasurer, also asked the board to provide him direction as to where they want the $34 million in bond proceeds invested to go — to the general fund, the permanent improvement fund or the building fund.
“That is a board decision and the direction I need is from the board,” Adelsberger said.
He said he hopes for a resolution to provide that direction in December.
