Lady Lakers finish sixth at state bowling tourney

Indian Lake’s girls bowling team capped off a stellar season by finishing sixth at the Division II state tournament Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The 16 teams that qualified from districts first competed in a qualifying round that included three regular games and three baker games. The field was then cut in half, with the top eight teams moving on to compete in a tournament competition.

Indian Lake tallied a score of 2,572 in qualifying to rank fourth going into the tournament portion.

The teams were seeded based on their qualifying totals, and competed in a head-to-head, best-of-five bracket.

The fourth-seeded Lakers were defeated in the first round by fifth-seeded Mechanicsburg, which prevailed with three wins to one.

Sandusky Perkins and Bowerstown Conotton Valley advanced to the championship match, with Conotton Valley winning 3-2.

Indian Lake was led by Jalan Martin and Kayleigh Zedlitz, who finished in the top 15 to earn honorable mention all-Ohio honors.

Martin was 11th with games of 240, 163 and 183 for a 586 series. Zedlitz finished 15th with games of 212, 187 and 175 for a 574 series.

The Lakers’ Jaelyn Hughes posted games of 154, 207 and 187 for a 548 series.

Napoleon’s Arianna Kiessling won the Division II state title with games of 238, 231 and 205 for a 674 series.
