Lady Chiefs finish 2nd at districts to earn state berth

Bellefontaine’s girls bowling program is headed to the state tournament for the third time.

The Chiefs punched their latest ticket to Columbus by finishing as the Division I district runner-up Friday at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek.

The top five teams earned berths in the state tourney, which is Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The format was three regular games and six baker games.

Vandalia-Butler won the district title with a tally of 3,738. Bellefontaine had 3,651, Kettering Fairmont had 3,625, Troy was fourth with 3,602 and Centerville grabbed the last state berth with a 3,570.

Kayla Watkins led Bellefontaine with games of 182, 232 and 147 for a 561 series.

Also for the Chiefs, Gracie Hood posted games of 179, 154 and 211 for a 534 series, Aubrey Hudson rolled games of 183, 169 and 173 for a 525 series, Leyla Johnson had games of 173, 164 and 178 for a 515 series and Chloe Heminger added games of 150, 154 and 168 for a 498 series.

“I am so proud of these girls, we have worked so hard in practice making spares and trying to make good pocket shots and today was no different and it all came together,” said BHS coach Jane Kline. “I can’t say enough about this group of girls, they are amazing.”
