An Urbana man was charged with third-degree felony counts of trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs during a traffic stop Monday evening along south U.S. Route 68 near Township Road 190, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Jacob C. Green, 28, was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail after deputies seized approximately 22 pounds of suspected marijuana and $1,960 in cash.
Deputies on patrol in the area about 7:15 p.m. observed a speed violation with his vehicle and initiated the stop.
While speaking with Green, deputies learned that his driver’s license was suspended and that his eyelids were heavy and responses were sluggish. Deputies also observed an “overwhelming odor of both burnt and raw marijuana” coming from the vehicle.
Green reportedly denied that there were any illegal substances in the vehicle. During a vehicle search, deputies recovered two baggies with suspected marijuana on the passenger seat and also observed a plastic container with marijuana residue on the passenger side floor board.
In the trunk of the vehicle, deputies recovered a large trash bag with 20 air-sealed bags of suspected marijuana.
Green told deputies he had a medical marijuana card and provided the card to deputies, who informed him that the amount of marijuana plant material in the vehicle was more than permitted.
Deputies also located his wallet in the vehicle with the large amount of cash.
He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail. Deputies also are sending a report to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of citations that include speed, seat belt violation and driving under suspension.
