NEW HAMPSHIRE — A Las Vegas man succumbed to injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Auglaize County Thursday evening on on U.S. Route 33 near Santa Fe Line Road, troopers of the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
Passenger Peter Charles Weitz, 37, was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, where he later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash, west of New Hampshire.
He was a passenger in a vehicle operated by Peter Carl Weitz, 66, of Henderson, Nev., who also was transported by LifeFlight to St. Rita’s Medical Center for serious injuries.
Troopers and Wayne Township Fire Department responded to the scene in the 24000 block of U.S. 33 about 5:15 p.m. Douglas M. Stearly, 19, of Trappe, Penn., reportedly was operating a westbound pickup when he went left of center to avoid striking traffic that slowed ahead of him. His pickup then reportedly struck Peter Carl Weitz’s eastbound pickup on the south side of the road, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Traffic was closed at the scene of the accident until about 7:40 p.m. Thursday. St. Johns Fire Department and the Waynesfield Police Department assisted at the scene.
