Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report two individuals were charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during their investigation of a private property crash Monday evening in Lakeview.
Robert A. Ferguson, 52, of 225 Oak St., Lakeview, was charged with OVI and was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital for the treatment of injuries sustained in the crash at Geiger Trailer Park, 234 E. Harrison St., about 6:20 p.m.
A witness reported Ferguson was operating a moped and “came around a corner too fast,” striking an unoccupied 2017 Honda Civic owned by Laura Campbell of Quincy that was parked in the area.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said EMS personnel were treating Ferguson. The defendant admitted to deputies that he had consumed shots of liquor that day. He was transported from the scene to the hospital.
While deputies were investigating the crash and asked to see the moped involved, they spoke to Richard L. Austin, 54, of 7207 Drive, Russells Point, who reportedly became belligerent with them. Deputies observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his person and deputies said Austin previously had been operating a motorcycle upon their arrival at the property.
Austin was repeatedly asked by deputies to stop interfering with the crash investigation, but he reportedly refused and his behavior became aggressive. A deputy drew a Taser on him, and then he complied with their commands.
He was placed under arrest and refused to participate in field sobriety tests. Austin was transported to the jail, where he also refused to participate in a chemical breath test.
Austin was charged with OVI, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
Additional follow-up will be completed with Ferguson at a later date, due to his injuries, deputies said.

While speaking to Fueston, deputies observed a nearly full open can of beer in the cupholder of the golf cart and issued her the summons. The contents of the beer can were dumped out.

The impact sent the Miller vehicle into the rear of a northbound 2012 Honda Accord operated by Sheeram Amara, 43, of Plain City, that had stopped to turn left into a private drive.
Damage was light to all three vehicles and the drivers were wearing their seat belts.
