Urban Meyer answered questions from the media for about 25 minutes on Monday and nearly all of that time was spent talking about the defense.
After the Buckeyes allowed 49 points and 480 yards to Indiana on Saturday, Meyer was peppered with questions about the defense during his weekly press conference.
Meyer was clearly not happy about the play of his defense this season. He said the amount of big plays they have given up is "absurd." He also disclosed that he had a special meeting with his defensive players and coaches.
In fairness to the defense, injuries have been a major issue, especially at linebacker. It got so bad that senior fullback Zach Boren was moved to linebacker for the IU game. Meyer said Boren will stay at linebacker.
The defense should get a boost this week from the return of Nathan Williams. Williams, a senior DE, sat out the IU game because of a concussion.
In other tidbits from Monday's press conference, Meyer said running back Jordan Hall is likely out this week with his knee injury. Hall has only played in two games. RB coach Stan Drayton was asked about a possible redshirt of Hall, but Drayton said that has not been discussed.RB Carlos Hyde has turned in two straight 100-yard rushing games. He has played so well that Meyer said Hyde will probably stay the starter at RB even when Jordan Hall returns.
