PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Rory McIlroy recovered from a sloppy start with a 4-under 66 to build a three-shot lead among early starters at the Honda Classic on Friday.
McIlroy made two early bogeys and then hit his stride by making six birdies in a 10-hole stretch. He has taken only 49 putts through two rounds.
McIlroy was at 11-under 129.
Russell Henley had a 68 and was three shots behind, followed by Lee Westwood, who had a 65.
Phil Mickelson made only four birdies over two rounds. He had a 71 on Friday and was virtually certain to miss the cut in his first time at PGA National since he was an amateur.
Tiger Woods was among the late starters. He began his round outside the cut line at 1 over, 12 shots behind McIlroy.
