CINCINNATI (AP) — Two Cincinnati sports groups are seeking to bring the 2016 U.S. marathon trials to the Ohio city.
Officials with the annual Flying Pig Marathon and the Greater Cincinnati Sports Corporation say they are working together on a bid for the trials ahead of the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
They say Cincinnati has a strong running community and enthusiasm for the sport. The trials would bring 100 male and 100 female runners for a nationally televised competition.
The officials say long-distance runner Ryan Hall is helping with course design and consulting with the local organizing committee. Hall won the 2008 U.S. marathon trials and placed 10th in the Beijing Olympics.
