Chiefs’ earn 2 regional qualifiers on 1st day of district

Bellefontaine’s boys track and field team saw two individuals advance to the regionals on the first day of action at the Division I district meet at Piqua High School.

Vandalia-Butler leads the boys team race after four events with 35 points. Northmont is second with 20 points and Bellefontaine is third with 19 points.

The Division I district meet concludes Friday with field events starting at 5 p.m. and running event finals at 6:30 p.m. The top-four placers in each event advance to the regional meet next week at Wayne High School.

Bellefontaine senior Dezmin Lyburtus placed third in the boys long jump on Wednesday. He used his first jump of 21-7 1/4 to advance to regional. Lyburtus placed fifth at the Division I state meet last season.
