CLAYTON — A bunch of grit and fight from West Liberty-Salem could not overcome the offensive firepower produced by Versailles in their Division III sectional final Saturday.

WL-Salem stayed within striking distance for two and a half quarters before Versailles used a surge to pull away for a 74-50 victory at Northmont High School.
Versailles 6-5 star forward Justin Ahrens, who has signed with Ohio State, scored a game-high 32 points.
“They have one of the best players in the state and he showed why he is a great player,” said WL-Salem head coach Darrin Leichty. “He hit a lot of tough shots and there is only so much you can do against a playerlike that."
