4th-quarter rally not enough to dig Chiefs out of hole

SPRINGFIELD — Bellefontaine got one key player back, but lost another Friday night.

Standout senior center Spencer George returned following a gameand-a-half absence because of an injury. However, veteran point guard Jack Clement did not make the trip to Kenton Ridge after becoming ill.

George scored 33 points and helped Bellefontaine dig out of a 20- point second-half deficit, but the Cougars were able to hang on for a 72-66 victory in a Central Buckeye Conference boys basketball game.

“It seemed like they were playing 10 times faster than us in the first half,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Calton. “We were reacting and not anticipating. They were leaking guys out and beat us in transition.

“We started to settle down a little bit in the third quarter. It was a pride check for our guys and they responded.”
