Bellefontaine’s football team made program history with its first home playoff victory this season.

That achievement earned the Chiefs the top local sports story for 2017.

Following a 9-1 regular season, the Chiefs routed Granville 55-28 at AcuSport Stadium in the first round of the playoffs.

Bellefontaine had not won a home playoff contest in three previous attempts.

Bellefontaine went on to fall to Dresden Tri-Valley 36-30 in overtime in the second week of the playoffs. Tri-Valley would later advance all the way to the state finals, where it fell to Trotwood Madison by eight points.

The Chiefs won the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division for the second straight season. They were led by standout senior quarterback Dezmin Lyburtus, who earned secondteam Division III all-Ohio honors.

There were many other notable headliners during the past year. The following is a rundown of the some of the most memorable ones.
