Winter sports are unique in the fact they have the longest season of all high school sports, spanning roughly five months, and that they have to endure the holiday season festivities.
For wrestling, the holidays can be especially challenging to navigate.
Instead of enjoying all the holiday food and treats, wrestlers have to watch their weight because many of them are competing in various tournaments.
Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan compete next Wednesday and Thursday in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament at Vandalia-Butler High School.
Wrestling begins at 11 a.m. on both days with the finals scheduled to start Thursday at 5 p.m. There are 47 teams and the top eight in each weight class place.
The GMVWA tournament is a great gauge of the Southwest District and what we can expect closer to the state tournament. Many of the wrestlers who place at the ‘G’ end up going far in the postseason.
