Triad’s girls basketball team came out firing in the first half against visiting Riverside and rolled to a 56-41 non-league victory on Monday.

The win moves the Cardinals to 2-1 on the season as the Pirates remain winless at 0-3.

“This group of girls is playing very well together,” said Triad head coach Jeff Merklin. “Putting the statistics together is a joy because it shows every girl is contributing, which is so important over the course of a season.”

Triad got off to a fast start to lead 16-5 at the end of the opening quarter. The Cardinals outscored the Pirates 13-8 in the second quarter to carry a 29-13 lead into the break.

Triad stayed in control in the third quarter to hold a 40-25 lead.
