Finishing drives is area of focus for Bellefontaine

Bellefontaine Chiefs

Despite getting a win over a good Jonathan Alder team last week, it was not completely satisfying for Bellefontaine head football coach Toby Smith.

The Chiefs put up 452 yards of offense, but found the end zone just twice in the 19-6 win over the Pioneers.

Bellefontaine’s offense stalled twice at the Jonathan Alder 11-yard line and had to rely on two 28-yard field goals by Derek Robb to salvage the drives.

As Bellefontaine prepares to go on the road to face Springfield Shawnee on Friday for a key Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division game, there has been an added focus on finishing off drives.

“When we get scoring opportunities, we have to take advantage of them and put the ball in the end zone,” said Smith. “We had 28 first downs last week, but we only scored 19 points. We have to do a better job of executing when we get opportunities inside the 20-yard line.”
