Benjamin Logan freshman Ethan Ricketts competed in the Division II district golf tournament Monday at Beavercreek Golf Course.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state tournament later this week in Columbus.
Summit Country Day won the district championship with 338, Alter was runner-up with 341 and Oakwood grabbed the last state berth with 342. Springfield Shawnee’s Grant Engle was the tournament medalist with a low round of 73.
A freshman, Ricketts finished 29th out of 72 golfers with an 89. He carded a 46 on the front and had a 43 on the back.
“As a coach, I’ve never witnessed a player’s entire round that was so different,” said BL head coach Chris Conley. “Tee to green, I don’t think Ethan could have played much better. He struggled, though, with chipping and putting. The encouraging part about that is it’s the easiest area to improve quickly. Ethan is only a freshman so the experience will benefit him immensely.”
