Tigers put perfect record on the line vs. rival Indians

It has not taken much to get West Liberty-Salem’s football team motivated this week for its annual rivalry with Mechanicsburg on Friday.

A new-look Indians’ team hosts the Tigers for a key Ohio Heritage Conference game at 7 p.m.

The Tigers (5-0, 3-0) remain ranked in the Division VI state poll at 11th, but face their toughest test of the season in the Indians (4-1, 2-1), who have won 38 of their last 41 total games.

Mechanicsburg’s only loss this season was to Greeneview in Week 4 by a 17-14 score. It snapped a 26-game regular-season winning streak.

“The teams and communities always are excited to play each other, so there is an extra buzz in the air this week,” said WL-Salem head coach Dan McGill.
