Bellefontaine’s girls cross country team delivered a strong performance Saturday by placing sixth out of 31 teams at the Cedarville University Friendship Invitational.
Alter won the girls Division II-III race with 103 points, Versailles was second with 127 points and Covington came in third with 142 points. The Chieftain girls were sixth with 244 points.
Bellefontaine’s boys competed in the Division I race and finished 15th out of 25 teams. Carroll won the race with 56 points, Springboro took the runner-up spot with 115 points and Mason was third with 126 points. The Chieftains had 489 points.
“The girls placing sixth is right on target for our goal to get to the regional meet at season’s end,” said BHS head coach Ben Davis. “Jess Flack earned her season’s-best time.
“There were nearly 700 runners in the boys race which is not ideal, but the district course experience will be valuable. Griffin Purcell and Brandon Basillio raced to a season’s-best time, too.”
